Hunting in
Congo
Hunting in the forest requires the Baka pygmies skills for tracking. Hunter-gatherers from the outset, the forest holds no secret for them.
Everything is stealthy, in a biotope so dense that you can hear the animals without always seeing them. This is the major difference between rainforest and savannah.
The hunting area of over 200,000 hectares is located in Northern Congo (totally different country than DRC), separated from Cameroon by the Ngoko River. It can be reached by road from Ouesso (3h drive) or from Brazaville (13h drive).
Our hunting methodology is to follow the trails opened by logging companies and maintained by our partners. We pick up tracks, assess them and pursue them when deemed appropriate.
Bongos are generally hunted with the help of dogs, which can tern them “at bay”, although this does not detract from the tracking experience. We generally follow solitary bulls.
